Today, I recognize Theodore Roosevelts 149th birthday.
Last night, I started to write another section of the novel, called "Psychiatric." I am debating with myself how dark to go, how much to express, where to stop before I get too dark.
One of the hard parts about writing a novel that is...a) a self-portrait, b) forward looking, and c) mostly comedic: figuring out how to balance the optimism with the realism; how to acknowledge the dark aspects of life while embracing the positive. It will be a challege.
Tonight, a Halloween Party...with the theme Cthulu 2008: Why Vote for the Lesser Evil! I am going low key, as the campaign strategist, in the mold of Robert Deniro's Conny Breen in "Wag the Dog."
Should be fun.

Song Quote of the Day...for Picasso's Birthday
"People turn the color of an advocado/
When he'd drive down the street in his El Dorado/
He was only five foot two
Girls could not resist his stare./
Pablo Picasso was never called an a-hole."
(c) 1972, J. Richman, for his band, Modern Lovers.
Happy birthday, Picasso.

Back to the Novel
After some detours and redirections, I finally got down to business and began editing what has thus far been written for my novel, "The Philogynist." Overall, I am content with the writing. It has a long, long way to go, but I am pleased.
My epic poem, "Antietam," is integrated into the novel at one point. It comprises 2/3 of the 42 pages.
My proofreader may be less pleased than me, but that's her job.
Also, I am writing a chapter for the piece, called "Psychiatric." It addresses head on - in fictionalized way - the conflicts that I am facing internally and does not shy away from the hard questions or the scary alternatives to not addressing the hard questions.

Despite the Cubs, a Little Bit of Hope
The Boston Red Sox, a team I have followed and supported for the past 28 years, is going to its second World Series in 3 years. Against a team that has never been (Colorado Rockies).
This series will determine whether or not they truly have broken the Curse of the Bambino!
Go Sox!
