"A More Perfect Union"

I encourage anyone who longs for a higher order of political discourse, especially on the difficult subject of race, to go to Barack Obama's website (www.barackobama.com) and read and/or watch the speech he gave yesterday on race in America. I do not want to comment on it, so that you are not impacted by my own bias, but I do want you to understand why I think that this gentleman - for all his flaws and some of his baggage - should be one of the two finalists for the general election.

On another topic, relative to "more perfect unions," the governor of New York, with his wife by his side, admitted to infidelity during a tough time in his marriage, reflected on the anger of seeing his marriage falling apart, discussed how he and his wife strayed from each other and for the the sake of their family worked to save their marriage. He discussed the need to to air this past history so as not to be beholden to blackmail or external political forces that might try to upset his work on the people's business. Marriage is tough, marriage is hard work. Some marriages survive and some fail, some die on the vine and some explode in our faces. But it is personal relationship. The Paterson's did not or should not have had to admit anything...but their honesty was refreshing, especially after the fraud of the reformer, Eliot Spitzer. As someone who's marriage died on the vine, I am grateful for the Governor's honesty.
