Women and Bourbon

On a scale of 1 - 7 of sensual pleasures, sharing bourbon and conversing with a holistically beautiful woman rates a 9!

There are very few women who enjoy bourbon, so when I find them, they are quite special, and the moments are sheer joy.

Below is the treat I shared with a gal, a real cool Marlene Dietrich ("I'll have what the boys in the back rooom are having.") lady. From left to right: Basil Hayden, Woodford, Bookers and Bakers...I think.

Freedom on Four Wheels

A new (used) black Mitsubishi Galant, 2003, four-door, sun roof, automatic, only 48,000 miles on it...and black.

I love driving and now will be more mobile, more free, more energized.

The drive from the dealer in Catskill up Route 9W was wonderful. First CD played in car: the Velvet Underground's third album..."Pale Blue Eyes," "Jesus," "I'm Beginning to See the Light," and "I'm Set Free." A Hemingway cigar, sun-roof tilted open to let the cigar smoke out.

Scenes from the Last Hours of a Dive Bar

The other night, after playing trivia, I went over to a bar called McCormick's, which was having a bit of a last hurrah. It was a mess. The PBR light was already out, people were smoking on the street, the owner was wasted...all the was left to drink was PBR and Jameson's shots. I had the former, but not the latter. I got some photos:

More Scenes from NYC - Apri 26, 2008

Pictures below from my free two hours bopping around the city, presented pretty much in the order they were taken.

Outside Strand Books.

Front of McSorley's.

The floor by the footrail of McSorley's...if you click on the picture to increase its size, you will notice that there is, in fact sawdust on the floor. Had a liverwurst sandwich, two dark beers, communed with the ghosts of old writers and lost souls.

Doorway with artwork - front of Hell's Angels NYC Clubhouse

Gate and iron fence of cemetary in east village.

Tall tombstones in a cemetary in the middle of the east village.

Rear of Church Parish, from 4th Avenue and 10th Street. I like the way the spires align.

Bleecker Street Bar, around 1:30 p.m.

"Telling the Truth Can Be Dangerous Business..."

"...Honest and popular don't go hand in hand/
If you admit that you play the accordian/
No one will hire you in a rock and roll band."

From Ishtar, song credit to Paul Williams (I think).

I saw this poster of Ishtar, being shown at a Film Archives institution off 2nd Avenue in NYC.

It's good to see Ishtar getting its due respect.
